<p class="py8uwiv6mkgvd8eg0">On March 14th, communities around the world celebrated the <strong class="py8uwiv6mkgvd8eg0">10th Anniversary</strong> of the International Day of Action Against Dams and for Rivers, Water and Life. For the first time since the inauguration of the event, <strong class="py8uwiv6mkgvd8eg0">over 100 actions</strong> mobilized, educated and inspired tens of thousands of people in at least <strong class="py8uwiv6mkgvd8eg0">30 countries</strong>. Including over 25 events in South America alone, actions across the globe -- ranging from large urban protests to public seminars, children’s events to spiritual ceremonies -- united communities to protest destructive development projects, promote river restoration and fight for social justice.</p>

The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank’s "model" hydropower project is fast becoming a replica of past dam mistakes. Halfway through Nam Theun 2’s construction, livelihood restoration programs for affected villagers are in jeopardy. The power company and the Lao Government are backtracking on key commitments. IRN visited the area in March 2007 and gathered first-hand information from communities about how the project is affecting their lives.</td>
